Sin City Gangsters: The Rise and Decline of the Mob in Las Vegas

Coming from one of the top historians in the country is the story of how mobsters created and controlled Las Vegas for decades. Jeffrey Sussman takes the reader through a fast-paced journey through the history of the city, while detailing the lives of the criminals who controlled it. The reader is told of the many celebrities, including Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley, who played important roles in the development of Las Vegas.

In Sin City Gangsters: The Rise and Decline of the Mob in Las Vegas, we hear the stories of the many mobsters who built billion-dollar-plus resorts and casinos. The book travels from when Vegas was a simple desert city until it was seen as one of the most popular entertainment districts in the country. The reader is brought into a world where even politicians and entertainers would be swayed by the amount of money made from these places.

The book starts out talking about Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel and Meyer Lansky, and how their love for Hollywood inspired them to change Vegas into something similar. We see how they started out with dog races, and building mansions in the area, all to attract many to the city. Eventually, other gangs moved into the area, which increased the amount of gambling and the population.
