What is a seed lending library?

A seed library contains a selection of heirloom seeds that residents can borrow for no charge. When their plants grow, the recipients of the seeds donate a portion of the seeds from their own plants back to the seed library for others to use.

How do I use The Seed Library?

It’s easy to use The Seed Library. Come in and fill out the membership form and place it in the designated box. Select the seeds you would like to try in your garden, write your name and the seed names you selected in the black binder. Plant your seeds and in the fall when you harvest your garden, save some seeds for the library. You can place these seeds back in the original envelope with seed information and return to the library. If you misplace your envelope, we have extras. We will offer programs on seed saving and also have links to the right about seed saving.

Materials were donated, and skillfully crafted into our cabinet, by the Hoosier Woodworkers Guild.

Additional funding for the cabinet and to purchase seeds was provided by the Friends of the Library.

The Red-Tail Land Conservancy donated our new books this year, and Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds donated seeds.
