New Castle-Henry County Public Library recently began offering curbside pickup for library materials. Anyone who is unable to get to the library to use curbside pickup can request delivery service through the library’s outreach department.
Those who may use this service include those without transportation or cell phone. The Outreach Department encourages older adults and those experiencing health challenges to utilize this service.
“We cannot run our regular bookmobile routes at this time, but we will deliver holds to any of our Bookmobile patrons, as well as our regular Outreach patrons,” noted Marcia Eichel, Outreach Services Supervisor.
The team will deliver holds, including those placed online or over the phone, to people living within the library’s service area. Patrons will need to have an active library card.
Depending on the volume, Outreach Service will aim to have items delivered within two days. There will not be deliveries on Saturdays or Sundays. Staff will call those receiving materials as they are leaving the library building. If patrons have items to return, they should be put in a bag on the porch or doorstep. Staff will place the newly checked out items on the porch or doorstep and then will knock or ring the doorbell. They will go back to the van and watch to see that someone comes to the door and picks up the books. This will be a contact-free service.
